The Barossa Valley’s iconic wine estate, Seppeltsfield, has announced a new distribution partnership with Oatley Fine Wine Merchants (OFWM), to commence in March 2018.
Seppeltsfield, established in 1851 by the Seppelt family, will be represented by OFWM in Australia (all states and territories) as a leading Barossa brand partner in the Oatley portfolio.
The partnership has a clear purpose; to bring Seppeltsfield Barossa red and white wines to the wholesale trade -for the first time ever in the estate’s 166 year history. Despite its now substantial vineyard ownership, Seppeltsfield has only ever offered a range of still and sparkling wines from its cellar door in the Barossa. The estate has been known more so in the wholesale trade for its cache of fortified wine antiquities.
Celebrating a homecoming of the Seppeltsfield brand, the winery will expand from its current cellar door focus with Oatley national distribution, initially releasing three Barossa regional wines. Further collections will be added in late 2018.
Seppeltsfield was separated from Treasury Wine Estates in 2007, the property now under the majority ownership of winemaker Warren Randall. In the 10 years of private ownership, Randall has led a Seppeltsfield renaissance by developing its vineyard holdings on the ‘Western Ridge’ of the Barossa Valley and restoring the winery’s heritage listed buildings, including the prized 1888 Gravity Cellar.
The estate has also come to prominence in recent years as a tourism destination, being named the inaugural Great Wine Capitals Global Winner for Best Tourism Services and the country’s best wine tourism attraction at the Australian Tourism Awards last year.
Seppeltsfield’s senior winemakers, Fiona Donald and Matthew Pick, have had a combined 46 years of winemaking experience to prepare for Seppeltsfield’s inaugural release of Barossa still wines.
“We love where OFWM have come from, developing their business with an emphasis on the on-premise model, family-owned wineries and a principle of service, service, service”, said Seppeltsfield Proprietor, Warren Randall. “The incredible success of the Rosemount brand, which the Oatley family established, was built from an on-premise model.”
“It is quite remarkable that one of Australia’s oldest and most iconic wine estates has never released a Barossa still wine range into the market. It is an understatement to say that it has been a long awaited release. We are sure that the Oatley team are going to revel in bringing our reinvigorated brand and some really exciting wines to the market”, added Randall.
Seppeltsfield will announce further details of their first tier of Barossa wines in January next year.
