Wild Oats The Yacht
Wild Oats XI is a 30m maxi yacht with a canting or swinging keel. At a cost over $10 million, it was the world’s most hi tech and technologically complex racing yacht, and just three weeks old when it won the start of the 2005 Sydney to Hobart, and the whole of the 628-nautical mile race in 1 day, 18 hours, 40 minutes and 10 seconds, breaking previous record set by Nokia in 1999. It won the treble, taking Line Honours, winning the Corrected handicap, and breaking the course record.
(Triple Fastest, Line and Handicap winner) In December 2006 it became the first ever to win the race back to back.
In June 2007, On his 79th birthday, Bob Oatley announced that Wild Oats XI would compete in the 2007 Sydney to Hobart Race.
